An ode to coffee

It’s Wednesday, very late in the morning and I have coffee brewing for the first time in a couple of weeks. I recently made the switch to instant coffee in an effort to reduce waste. As a single person, I normally drink one or two cups of coffee during the day. So, making an entire pot is really a waste of coffee.

But I noticed something else – I’ve been having extreme stomach pains the last week and that usually means that I haven’t been “regular”. There was a reason I was drinking coffee in the morning. It really helped my stomach. So. I guess it’s back to regular coffee and hopefully these pains will go away soon.

The benefits of one cup of coffee are quite remarkable. For me it’s about the experience. The smell of the freshly ground coffee beans. Holding the hot cup of coffee in my hands. And then the best part – the first sip of the coffee for the day.

The Danes tend to drink coffee black. But I’ve never enjoyed black coffee. I usually have a small teaspoon of sugar and coffee cream to go with. The best is having a toasted bagel with cream cheese on the side.

When I worked in Commerce Place, I found myself standing in long lines at Starbucks every morning to spend $5 on a cup of coffee that I would drink half of. I switched to going to McDonalds on the first level because the coffee was much cheaper – and to be honest – better. For the price of one latte at Starbucks – I could get a full breakfast and coffee at McD’s. I really miss working at that office sometimes. There were so many restaurants to choose from.

As I sat down this morning and started writing this post, I did not mean to turn this into an Ode to Coffee. But I guess that’s okay! I really do love my coffee. I can’t get my day started without it – no matter what time my day starts. I really do need to get my sleep back to normal. I blame hormones this week.

So, that’s it. That’s my Wednesday post. An ode to coffee. The drink that starts my day. The one drink that is warm and comforting at the same time.

Coffee. Coffee. Coffee.

You can drink it alone on a chilly winter morning. Or you can enjoy it with friends at a diner over toasted bagels. Or you can sip it slowly while on your first date with a new guy.

Coffee. Coffee. Coffee.

It may be my one true love.

Here’s an old commercial from the 90’s with dreamy Anthony Steward Head. To show you how much I love my coffee.
