The Black and White – Photography Challenge

A couple of years ago, there was a black and white photography challenge going around. I pulled some of my best pictures over the years and posted them on my personal Instagram account. But I thought I would share my top five with you today and explain the back story behind each photo.

This isn’t my best but I love the mysterious look of the shot. It’s like a scene from a horror movie. This was taken near a ranch where my friend Montana keeps her horse. It was taken in 2012. Montana was riding and I decided to wander around a bit and found this abandoned shack.

About ten minutes later, I stumbled upon this great little house. I didn’t want to get too close as I wasn’t sure if anyone was in the house. But I switched the settings on the camera to black and white and took this great shot.

When I got my first camera, a Nikon P100 in 2010, it was winter time. I decided to use objects in my condo to practice on and learned how to shoot “Macro Art”. This is one of many photos that came out of that time.

Last but not least – is this amazing shot that I took with my P900 two years ago. It was a clear night and I came home just in time for this shot. I didn’t have a tripod at the time so it’s a bit blurry. But I get goosebumps when I look at this photo.

Honourable Mention – this shot of the River Valley that I enhanced using Corel Painter. I just adore it. I call it The Long and Winding Road.
