Fitness: week one wrap up

One thing I realized lately is that it’s hard to get motivated to do much of anything when you’re tired all the time. Part of this comes from being sick so much. Eventually your immune system starts to suffer. Throw stress, anxiety and life issues onto that – and eventually, you’re going to crash and burn.

Welcome to where I am today.

I’m burned out. My body is tired from constantly recovering from sinus and ear infections. My voice is still hoarse and I have this annoyingly persistent cough that’s been lingering since August.

I decided that it was time for a reboot. A reset. I had a system failure and it’s time to take charge and make some positive changes in my life.

Mostly, my body needed rest. A recharge. It needed to catch up on much needed sleep . And I’ve done that for the past week trying to get into a regular sleeping routine.

My diet is back on track. I start the day off with my two cups of coffee and Special K cereal. I’ve been stuck in a food rut lately and so mixing lunch and dinner up – is crucial. Otherwise, cooking just gets boring.

Last night, for example, I heated up a delicious veggie and cheese flatbread pizza. Pizza is a food group on its own but it is the crust that will kill you with carbs. Why does it have to be so damn yummy? Flatbread is my alternative. It’s not as good as pizza crust, but it will do in a pinch.

The night before, I cooked up a delicious pork roast. I cut up some mushrooms, an onion and mini potatoes and roasted it along side the roast. Roasting is a fine art – that’s what I’ve learned. I’m still mastering how to roast a pork loin – the right way. Topped it off with a side of Brussels and it was like my mother’s home-cooked meals all over again.

But I forgot how much my stomach doesn’t like all things that are cabbage and Brussels. Oh my. I’ll spare you the gory details.

I need to up my exercise routine. A lot. I’m thinking of joining a fitness class as soon as I can fit into my old swim suit. There’s only so much to be done at home. And with the impending winter weather – my options for outdoor activities will be very limited.

Plans for a move in the spring – probably on hold for now while I figure this stuff out. I know now what the source of my sickness is and let’s just say, it’s not my home. I’ve kept this place pretty tidy since renovations.

All in all – this first week has been pretty productive. Next week – I have a whole whack of medical tests I need to do. I was going to do it this week – but meh. My body did not cooperate.

I’m still trying to figure out what to do with my time over the next few months. I don’t want to go into too much detail here. I may look into doing some online courses into graphic design or similar once I start feeling more like myself.
