Meditation: What is ASMR?

What is ASMR? And how can it be used to help with sleeping or relaxation? Let me tell how it works – and how I got hooked on this amazing discovery.

Youtube is a wonderful tool to discover new things. One minute, you’re looking for your favorite song. Then you click on the related searches videos. And four hours later, you find yourself watching videos of people falling or cats being assholes.

I love Youtube. Many hours – time well wasted.

YouTube – is also great for DIY articles, tutorials and discovering new methods to help improve your life.

How can you improve your life? It’s easier than you think. Just listening to these recordings can really put your mind at ease.

So, what is ASMR?

ASMR is the autonomous sensory meridian response that your body produces when it picks up on energies or sounds. It’s a static like sensation that can make your hairs stand on your arms. Sometimes you feel a prickly sensation on the back of your neck.

Sound familiar? I get this all the time when I’m on my own for no apparent reason. I am sensitive in nature and easily pick up on energies (negative or positive) around me.

How is ASMR created?

ASMR can be recorded in home studios. There are thousands of channels on YouTube now dedicated to creating ASMR for your listening pleasure. But be wary of your search. Some channels are geared towards adult erotica – and may not be for the faint of heart. Or maybe it is. Whatever floats your boat. I know I get a kick and tingle out of ASMR.

According to the Oxford dictionary:

ASMR is a feeling of well-being combined with a tingling sensation in the scalp and donw the back of the neck, as experienced by some people in response to a specific gentle stimulus. Often a particular sound. ASMR is triggered by things like whispering, paper tearing, plastic bags, and scalp massage.

Since posting this article originally, I have discovered a plethora of channels out there that focus solely on creating ASMR videos. I have to admit, I’m hooked. I did some research one night when insomnia struck to look into what you need at home to record these wonderful videos.

Creating DIY videos at home is entirely possible. There are popular channels where YouTubers use only their cell phones to record these fascinating videos. If you really want to get into the game, head over to asmr zeitgeist tutorial videos as he gives some great tips for buying equipment. All you need is a good microphone and camera. And some toys to work with.

How do you know which ASMR channel is right for you? There’s no correct answer here. The ones I stumbled upon in my search may not be for everyone. But I highly recommend giving them a go.
