It’s been a busy weekend and here we are at Monday again. I haven’t had as much time to write as I wanted to. Saturday was a bit of a bust. I slept a lot. I needed a day to catch up on rest. Sunday was busy as heck. We were at my dad’s house all day cleaning and I’m exhausted. Grateful to have a day off today. We still have a lot of work to do.
Friday night, I went out to a major concert and had a fantastic time. I forgot how much I love music and seeing live shows. I plan on seeing as many as I can this summer. I even bought tickets to see Rosanne Cash. Johnny’s daughter. I’ve been a fan for a long time but missed her last time she was in town. I’m really excited to see her live.
I’m seeing Billy Idol in a couple of weeks. The seats aren’t great – but I’m stoked to see him perform. I saw Corey Hart on Friday with Glass Tiger. So this summer has already been an 80’s rewind for me. I still hope he has that sneer.
There are a lot of artists I have on my bucket list. Many of them don’t tour anymore sadly. Eric Clapton sticks to places like Texas and L.A. Mark Knopfler – well, I’d need to sell a kidney to be able to afford tickets to see him. And sadly, Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi aren’t stopping in my city any time soon. That kind of makes me sad. I guess I’ll have to venture out to NYC one of these years.
I was so tired when I got home last night after seeing my dad that I passed out at 9:00 pm. I’m wide awake now and have already had breakfast. It’s now 5:15 am.
It’s funny. Three months ago, I would have called you crazy if you had suggested that I start getting up early in the morning. Now – mornings are my favorite part of the day. The world is quiet outside. The air is cooler and fresh. You can often smell the dew on the grass and trees outside. The birds are singing to each other. The neighbourhood kids are still tucked into bed. The neighbours above me are sleeping.
Yes, I can see the attraction of early mornings. The world is so peaceful. And to quote a friend of mine at work, it’s invigerating to get up so early in the morning.
And I even cooked breakfast. Sunny side up eggs laid flat on two pieces of white bread. Not very low carb friendly – but tasty. My diet – well, it slipped this weekend a little as it sometimes does. I have to get back into the low-carb routine this week.
For inspiration on cooking, I’ve been watching Chef’s Table on Netflix. The background stories of these chefs are inspiring me to become a better chef. I want to study different kinds of cooking and learn the history behind recipes and styles of cooking.
There all kinds of cooking shows on Netflix. If you’re interested in cooking like me, I’d highly recommend watching Chef’s Table. This might be my new favourite show.
I think I will write a separate post on cooking shows that I find to be inspirational. All I can think about is being in the kitchen these days. Cutting food is so relaxing to me. I can’t wait to bring all the things I packed up from my dad’s house.
I’ll have a lot of new kitchen toys to play with. I’m hoping to invest in an indoor grill so I can experiment with grilled fish and vegetables like asparagus. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
Music is definitely behind me. It’s in the past. It’s no longer a part of my life. I still volunteer a couple of times a month and take the odd funeral or wedding. But for the most part – I’m done. It’s been a great journey of 40 years. I’ve been playing since I was a toddler.
Music doesn’t inspire me anymore. Not like food does. And I can’t wait to get my day started in the kitchen and cook up some amazing dishes for you to see.
Cheers and happy Monday to all.
