As a musician, I find that I need background music to listen to when I sit down to write, or when I exercise. I used to sit for hours on Saturday mornings and make playlists on Itunes before I discovered the world of Spotify. But Youtube and I have a long history together. I’ve discovered so many fantastic artists using the Related Searches.
It doesn’t always work though. Sometimes you hop onto Youtube to search for a specific recipe or how to video, and four hours later, you find yourself watching silly dog videos. Am I right, or am I right?
As I sat down to eat dinner, I had a brilliant idea on how to combine my love of music with this blog. And so I hopped onto Youtube and updated my channel for you.
Welcome to Music Mondays!
Instead of boring you with posts about workout plans and fitness articles, Monday nights will be used to share some of my favorite Youtube channels with you and we’ll explore different kinds of music based on weekly themes. I’ll try and fit these themes in with my weekly fitness goals.
This week’s theme is: Self-Care & Relaxation
Here are three channels I highly suggest you check out if you’re looking for music listen to while writing, doing yoga, or if you just want to sit back and relax to hypnotic tunes.
I’ve been a fan of Buddha’s Lounge for a lounge for a long time. I’m surprised at the low number of followers (29K) because their mixes have millions of views. This one in particular, is one that I often listen to at the end of the day when trying to wind down for the night.
Here’s another mix I really enjoy – Arabic Spanish Music for world music lovers
This is a new channel for me. It came up in my related searches the other week when I was looking for music to listen to last week. Meditative Mind’s theme for the channel is “positive vibes only” which I absolutely love. The channel has a variety of videos to choose. Their music is suitable for yoga, meditation and relaxation. I stumbled on this video today “Hand drum, tabla yoga music.” I pressed play and did not regret it. In fact, I’m listening to it now as I write this.
“Hand” Drum and Tabla Yoga Music
This next video popped up in the play next feed and I had to give it a listen. I’m a huge fan of Indigenous music and I adore the pan flute. Music like these sends me into such a deep state of transcendence – that I can’t even find the words to describe how it makes me feel.
When I listen to the pan flute, I’m reminded of my younger days exploring the world of Shamanism and how I felt during drumming circles. If you want to experience a deep meditation state – put this music on your Ipod next time you hike through the woods. Find a peaceful spot near water, sit down, close your eyes and just relax.
This is what I used to do on my mountain hikes. I would spend a whole day on the trails listening to this kind of music. If you’re looking to connect and be one with nature, then this is the type of music for you.
Indian Flute Meditation Music
Soothing Relaxation is one of the largest channels for meditative and relaxing music. With 3.1 million subscribers you have to wonder what makes this channel so great. The relaxing music combined with stunning 4K-8K nature videos is what makes this channel so mesmerizing. This channel also does live streaming of music. I actually listen to it quite a bit when writing.
While this music doesn’t take me to another world like the Native American pan flute, it’s it receives notable mention because of the quality of the camera work. These videos are impressive. And it’s making the photographer in me want to get out there and start recording!
Even that first thumbnail blows me away.
Deep Sleeping Music, Stress Relief
If you’re into piano music like me, obviously, then you’ll enjoy this video.
There you have it! My top three choices for the week of May 17, 2019. If you want to listen to more music, make sure to check out my youtube channel. It’s a work in progress. I am working on playlists for every mood. Make sure to subscribe because eventually I will start recording videos. Make sure to check out my playlists below.
